The first 9.5 miles of our hike followed our previous path to Willett Hot Springs. Our group saw 8 snakes over 2 days, 4 of them rattlers. and there is not much shade so it can be very hot. There were dozens of mountain goats hanging out in the area for most of our first morning. This is a top spot in my book enjoy! I drove to the Dough Flat trailhead in a 1974 Pinto operated sanely at a speed appropriate to the road and the modest capabilities of that vehicle. Volunteers have also been busy working on the far southern side of the Sespe with trail days focused on the Agua Blanca, an upcoming reroute of the Pothole Trail and scouting for future projects working from Dough Flat to Sespe Hot Springs. way. Jon B. and I backpacked a loop to Sespe Hot Springs, Alder-Sespe confluence, up the Alder Creek narrows to Shady Camp and out. I was bitten somewhere in one of those two locations.
